In life, she faithfully hauled oil and kerosene up and down the North Atlantic.  In death, she is more vibrant than ever…

Using a mix of current footage, brand-new interviews, vintage slides, audio and rare 8mm film unseen in almost 30 years, Still On Her Keel:  The Legacy Of The Chester Poling explores the cycle of change that surrounds Cape Ann’s most popular shipwreck, a coastal tanker violently swallowed up by the Atlantic during a fierce Nor’easter in 1977.  Battered by the elements both above and below the waves, she is now a meeting ground for divers with a passion for exploration, education or the thrill of simply descending to a vessel that met her untimely end.  Approaching her 4th decade at rest on the bottom, the Chester A. Poling is a constant source of adventure for an ever-increasing circle of submariners.

Without question, this is a film about a shipwreck…but Still On Her Keel is also about touching history.  It’s about the raw power of nature - how concrete and steel eventually concede defeat.  It’s a film about friendships, both forging and renewing.  It’s about the simple truth that change is a good thing - and that the ocean always has the last word.

Still On Her Keel was written, directed and edited by Aaron Faulls and features cinematography, lighting and sound design by Ryan Nelsen and Daniel Eslinger.

Located on the banks of the Charles River basin, the mission of Community Boating, Inc., is the advancement of sailing for all by minimizing economic and physical obstacles to sailing. In addition, CBI enhances the greater Boston community by using sailing as a vehicle to empower its members to develop independence and self-confidence, improve communication, foster teamwork, and acquire a deeper understanding of community spirit and the power of volunteerism.  At Community Boating, kids of all ages become members and learn to sail a wide variety of boats for only a single dollar.

In July and August of 2005, a team of filmmakers based out of the Center For Digital Imaging Arts documented the program in hopes of drawing national (and global) attention to such a unique and dynamic organization that knows no economic, cultural or social boundaries.  In January of 2006, All Points Of The Compass was licensed for broadcast by The Sailing Channel.  Available for viewing here is the first cut.

A tenant under the pillars of the bar at Sand Dollar resort in Bonaire, this Iguana posed so nicely for Aaron while making his promotional video for Ocean State Scuba that he felt he required his own piece.  So sure enough, here’s life in the southern Caribbean as seen through the eyes of its most famous reptile.
